All work and no play

Him: I will be home late today.

Me: Poor appa. All work and no play…

Kiddo: Amma, all work and no play increases appa’s salary!

– Cheeky kiddo sure has her comebacks down pat these days. Poor appa.

When the cat is away

“The house feels so empty. What shall we do next?”

– Asks my younger daughter who has taken to following me around with that lost puppy look, now that her older sister is away on a school trip.

My kids. Can’t live with each other, can’t live without each other.

Older and wiser

Me: You should listen to me. I do know more.

Her: Yes amma. I know. Old people are wiser.

– Ouch! I suppose claiming to be young at heart won’t really cut it?

Someday

Conversation between my nine year old daughter and her father.

Appa: Make me some tea.

Her: Someday, appa. I’m not saying I’ll make it now, or tomorrow or later. But someday.

Appa: I’ll also send you to college someday. I’m not saying I’ll send you when you are ready to go or the year after. But someday.

Her: I’ll find some way to go to college. And I’ll find some way to become a billionaire. And then I won’t give you my money!

– Poor appa, there goes his retirement plan. He seems to keep getting outwitted again and again and yet again.

The moral of the story

Me: I’m glad you had a proper breakfast this morning.

Her: What’s an “improper” breakfast amma?

– And the moral of the story is to beat your kids into submission early on so they don’t pass smart-aleck comments such as these.
