Trouncing the little one in a fiercely contested game of Uno…

Me: Kiddo, you might as well give up. Today’s my day. (*Fist pump and crowing with delight)

Unflustered Kiddo: Amma, maybe today’s your day. But remember, some other day will be MY day.

Damn, an almost 8 year old giving me perspective on life!

Exercising your voice

I don’t know how you have this effect, amma. Whenever you say “Do what you want, it’s your choice” in THAT voice, I just feel compelled to do what YOU want me to do. You should teach me that voice.

It’s all in the book, kiddo – “How to Deal with Recalcitrant Pre-Teens”, Chapter 7 “Exercising Your Voice – Pitch, Intensity and Modulation”!

Retaliates my 10 year old with a mischievous gleam in her eye on seeing all the posts in Things My Kids Say.

An evening spent playing dress up…

Me dressing up and the little one egging me on.

Her: No amma, you are not supposed to look like “amma”. You are supposed to look like a glamorous, stylish person.

Ouch. Bring out the war paint!

Much later, after it was all over…

Her: I’m not saying you look bad when you put on all that stuff. But now you look like good old amma.

Sigh. Why do I put myself through this?
